We’ve all heard of the major pop punk bands, but that doesn’t mean that they’re the only ones out there. Medium Sized Kids, from Camas, Washington, are a lesser know band made up of Shane Moffett, who plays the drums, John Doyle, who plays the guitar, and Joseph Kashas who plays bass. All three also contribute to vocals. MSK were also entered in a contest at amplifiedcontest.com to open for Weezer. Also this year, they just released an EP available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.
I bet you’re dying to know what they sound like, am I right? Imagine Blink-182 and The Wonder Years having a baby. That baby, is Medium Sized Kids. Their track, “Forgetting Goodbye”, is a song about not being forgotten, complete with unique, almost southern mixed with Oriental sounding guitars, lyrics you can relate to, and vocals that sound like they were copied and pasted straight from Tom DeLonge of Blink-182.
I’ve only listened to this song twice, and it’s sure to be stuck in my head for hours. Another fantastic song is “Wake Up”, which seems to be about young love, and the faster you go to sleep, the faster you’ll be awake the next day. If you’re getting excited about this band, you should definitely take the time to listen.
If that’s not enough for you, the band posted on their Facebook today “guys. i know its been out for a while. but who here hasn’t heard our EP from beginning to end? We want to send it to you for free”. If these aren’t enough reasons to check this edgy band out, I don’t know what else I could say to convince you. MSK have a little something for everyone, between humorous Facebook posts, local shows in and around Portland, and most importantly, music that you can feel deep down inside of you that just makes you want to press repeat over and over again. Bands like MSK are the reason that I’m proud to say I love Pop Punk.
